Celebrating 150 years, Hotel Sorrento’s future honours its natural and architectural beauty, transitioning from a historic hotel and pub to a boutique beach hotel. This expansion is not an exercise in being different, it is about emphasising who we already are.

Inspired by the ocean and the Peninsula landscape, the expansion evokes mineral-soaked holidays in the Mediterranean. Here, long beach days are followed by cold drinks, while the cooler months are made cosy by a warm fire and soft fabrics. A year-round destination connecting guests to nature and to each other, Hotel Sorrento presents as a welcoming antidote to our increasingly busy urban lifestyles.

As Hotel Sorrento transitions to a world-class boutique beach hotel, like a great beach house where guests can relax, it will exude effortless charm and only get better with age. Its location, scale and independent ownership enhance this idea. Right on the shoreline, guests and patrons have spectacular views of the ocean and access to the beach and town. It is the perfect place to escape the city for a night or two, have a drink with friends as the sun sets or relax by the pool. In addition, Hotel Sorrento has been connected with the neighbourhood and Peninsula for 150 years and family run for the last 40, with roots in the community that run deep.

After a three-year multi-million-dollar redevelopment, Hotel Sorrento will unveil its new wellness facilities, day spa, 30m lap pool, signature restaurant, luxury suites and conference facilities in 2022. Designed by Six Degrees architecture and Jack Merlo landscape architects, the development will create a true lifestyle resort destination. “We are intending for a relaxed coastal resort feel, appealing to both the leisure and corporate markets” says Myles Pitt, Operations Manager. Located in the heart of Sorrento, walking distance to some of Australia’s most stunning beaches and a short drive to local wineries and world-renowned golf courses, there’s a plethora of activities for people to enjoy in the area. “However, they can also spend the day lazing by the pool, enjoying a treatment in the spa and finishing up with a cocktail in our new signature restaurant with panoramic bay views”.

Launching in the summer of 2022 will coincide with 150 years since Hotel Sorrento’s establishment. “This is a significant milestone for the business” says Rob Pitt, who has owned and operated the Hotel for over 40 years. The third-generation family business has been built on warmth and quality service, which will be key to the success of the new areas.

The hotel already offers five bars, a thriving restaurant, 37 accommodation rooms, private dining spaces, and conference facilities. Whether it be business or leisure, Hotel Sorrento is most certainly an iconic destination on the Mornington Peninsula.
